This is a Work-From-Home position with occasional attendance at the Administration building located at 2151 Thurston Drive, Ottawa, ON

Summary

As the Communications & Public Relations Specialist, the incumbent will support the marketing and communications teams and as required to external contractors. The primary focus will be on supporting all communications, media & public relations functions for CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO).

The incumbent will create, coordinate, and maintain internal and external communications; participate in media relations and community events affairs. External corporate communications shall also be included within this mandate.

Job Function and General Responsibilities

  • Identify relevant communication and media vendors and suppliers, and develop professional, positive relationships to further the goals and public perception of CAANEO.
  • Communicate and negotiate with promotional partners as needed for joint marketing activities.
  • Support media relations by liaising directly with the media.
  • Provide direct input to, and/or oversight to the production of press releases to targeted media; social media posts; blogs and press releases
  • Manage a roster of internal spokespeople for media coverage and consistent messaging
  • Efficiently collate and analyze media coverage.
  • Work with Creative staff to ensure consistency and quality of communications/marketing campaigns
  • As required work with other staff to respond to member inquiries and support other internal groups in addressing member issues
  • Advocate on behalf of members and the club as a whole to government committees and non-government interest groups
  • Provide input and produce employee communications.
  • As required, work with other Departments to create collateral materials and to support events
  • Coordinate with other CAA/AAA resources to ensure relevant and professional public events which support key strategic Club initiatives and operational goals
  • Provide oversight to public awareness campaigns and contests to ensure maximum participation and positive media exposure
  • Source and manage speaking and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Write and optimize blogs for search engine optimization
  • Write annual report content
  • Review and write marketing content as needed (web, social, print ads, radio scripts etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as required

Education/Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree/College Diploma or equivalent with a specialty in Communications, Journalism, or Business.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years in a direct communications position or related field
  • Exceptional and demonstrated written and verbal communications skills
  • Exceptional planning and coordination skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven abilities as a strategic communicator in English
  • Superior organizational skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple priorities with tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated history of creative problem solving
  • Experience with campaigns, media, and public relations
  • Knowledge of web and social media platforms and best practices
  • Experience with social media strategy, execution, monitoring and measurement
  • Knowledge and understanding of content marketing and search engine optimization
  • Experience with media outreach, monitoring and monitoring programs
  • Interest in and understanding of principles related to corporate communications
  • Experience supervising and developing subordinate staff
  • Able to work in a team environment, meet tight deadlines while juggling conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively within the MS Office Suite of products
  • Ability to travel on occasion
