Job Description :
This position provides communications and administrative support to the C&M Department. An integral part of Langara's Communications & Marketing team, the Communications Assistant contributes to the smooth running of the department by taking ownership of core processes such as meeting organization, agenda creation and minute-taking, responding to public inquiries, supports cost centre management and team culture and departmental events. They also play an important role in ensuring the execution of marketing and communications tactics such as social media monitoring and scheduling, web and intranet updates and other related marketing and communications activities.Applicants should be natural problem-solvers with a service-oriented mindset and strong organizational skills. This role is ideal for an early-career communications professional looking to build their skills and experience. They will be joining Langara's dynamic in-house Communications & Marketing team that serves a strategic function to strengthen the Langara brand and enhance the institution's reputation.

Qualifications Required :
Education & Experience
Grade 12 completion, plus up to two years of specialized training in communications, marketing, public relations, and specialized training in Secretarial / Office administration or equivalent.
Four (4) years related experience is required, including experience in an advertising, public relations environment preferably in a higher education environment including experience with secretarial / administrative duties.
Post-secondary degree (Bachelor's or diploma) in Communications, Marketing, or other relevant discipline or equivalent level of training and experience.
Proven experience in working with online communications and social media platforms and tools.
Proven experience working with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, SharePoint, Teams etc.), as well as PowerPoint.
Familiarity working in a Mac environment.
Proven experience with web content management systems such as Cascade Server and WordPress.
Skills & Abilities
High level of attention to detail and solid project management skills with the ability to assess tasks and priorities independently and collaboratively.
Sound judgement, with the ability to assess when to seek out support from senior team members.
A pro-active, service-oriented attitude.
Comfortable taking direction from others, with a willingness to ask questions to clarify understanding.
Collaborative team player, willing to work with others to resolve problems.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Works well under pressure with frequent interruptions to meet changing and competing deadlines. Able to work effectively with others under pressure to meet numerous and conflicting deadlines.
Comfortable in performing assignments with minimal supervision and working independently.
Able to effectively and accurately prepare agenda and detailed minutes (verbatim and summary style).
An aptitude for learning new software and technology in a self-directed manner.
Strong proofreading and copyediting skills with excellent grammar and spelling and familiarity of Canadian Press style.
Intermediate PowerPoint skills and ability to take bullet points to prepare presentations for leadership team.
Strong typing skills (60 wpm).
Able to navigate and use social media channels and platforms.
Familiarity with social media scheduling and management platforms such as Sprout Social, DashThis or Hootsuite.
Familiarity with social media monitoring and reporting tools.
Able to use content management platforms such as Cascade Server or Wordpress.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, including employees, students, media, secondary/post-secondary schools/institutions, peer and community groups, etc.
Working Conditions
This position is not subject to the compressed work week schedule.
Hours & Days of Work: 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
