Are you a creative, collaborative web developer who is looking to produce meaningful work on a high-performing team? Then University of Toronto Communications (UTC) wants to hear from you!

As a member of our Digital Creative Services team, you will be responsible for supporting the development, maintenance and enhancement of some of U of T's most important digital properties, including our main website, utoronto.ca. Digital Creative Services is a creative, collaborative and user-focused team consisting of a digital designer, content strategist and a fellow web developer. Under the direction of the Director, Digital Content & Engagement, you will work this team and other members of UTC to consult, develop, implement, make recommendations to improve the overall experience on our websites. You will be required to analyze user and business needs, and test and modify programming code to ensure compliance with best practices.

Our team worksclosely together to come combine rigorous analysis with creative execution to produce results-driven, user-focused digital experiences of the highest quality. Among other current projects, we are in the final stages of migrating our utoronto.ca website to Drupal 9, so extensive experience working with Drupal and/or other CMSes is essential. Experience organizing development work in an Agile environment is a strong asset.

Your responsibilities will include:

Designing, testing, and modifying programming code

  • Analyzing user needs and business processes to create programming solutions.
  • Analyzing and writing programming code structures based on user requirements
  • Analyzing and making recommendations for programming enhancements.
  • Building and maintaining websites. Customizing website according to objectives or user feedback.
  • Planning components of projects.
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
  • Collaborating on cost estimates
  • Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job related guidance.

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

  • Minimum four years of relevant experience with database design, implementation and management (MySQL) and experience working with multi-server, enterprise-level web infrastructures.
  • Experience with modern web development frameworks including but not limited to PHP, HTML5, CSS/SASS/SCSS, JavaScript/JQuery and strong knowledge of accessible web design practices.
  • Knowledge of current AODA legislation and ability to apply AA/AAA standards to existing code.
  • Basic knowledge of Wordpress and creating custom plugins and themes.
  • Must be proficient in theming and customizing Drupalinstances.
  • Knowledge of Git, AWS, Jenkins (CI/CD) platform.
  • Strong proficiency in currentweb design trends and practices and persistent web-database integration
  • Demonstrated team player, ability to work well in project teams.
  • Ability to work maintain strong work relationships and collaborate with others.

Assets (Nonessential):

Experience working on website redesigns involving large-scale content migration.

  • Experience working with Drupal 9.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:

USW Pay Band 12 - $71,131 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $90,965. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
