Communications Coordinators up to 8 permanent and temporary (up to 11 months)

If so, we want you on the City of Edmonton Communications and Engagement team. The Research, Engagement and Communications Branch is seeking up to eight hard-working Communications Advisors.

As a Communications Advisor you will provide direct communications support to City teams. You will work with those teams to identify and define business problems, craft communications strategies to solve those problems, and implement plans and associated tactics.

The responsibilities of this position will range from the development of comprehensive integrated communications plans, to project management, to relationship building. You will work closely with colleagues on projects across portfolios. You will provide strategic communications support to help solve your clients' communications challenges and needs, and will exemplify the City of Edmonton's cultural values.

Duties include:

  • Create, develop, implement and evaluate strategic communications plans and projects for both external and internal audiences.
  • Manage media relations and potential issues, including reviewing Council reports, planning and managing media events, developing strategies and messaging, coaching spokespeople and serving as a spokesperson
  • Write news releases, public service announcements, media advisories, brochures, newsletters and other communication products
  • Work with clients, designers and suppliers to help create effective communication and advertising products
  • Support marketing and education initiatives as well as client responses to citizen inquiries
  • Provide communications support to public engagement initiatives, involving residents in the development of projects and initiatives
  • Edit, develop and update web and 311 content for programs, projects and initiatives
  • Use social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter) to advance business goals and enhance internal and external communication efforts
  • Related duties as required

Qualifications :

  • Degree in a communications, public relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position; or Diploma in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position
  • Experience with advertising, printing, graphic design, traditional media, social media and other web-based communications
  • Experience supporting effective public engagement activities for project development from concept to construction
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective public engagement tactics and strategy, including survey-based campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully creating, developing, implementing and evaluating communication plans
  • Experience working with transportation planning or construction clients would be desirable
  • Demonstrated experience with traditional media relations, coaching spokespeople and acting as a spokesperson
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, RedDot CMS, Google Applications and Gmail is required
  • Demonstrated experience related to project management and communicating with stakeholder groups
  • Superior issues identification and management skills along with proven client consulting and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills
