Assistant Brand Manager - Customer and Brand Marketing (USA)

The Assistant Brand Manager will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (1551 Weston Road, M6M 4Y4) and will be responsible for developing and implementing Scotties' Brand Strategy along with Private Label Product Portfolio Strategy. This requires developing a strong understanding of the paper category, Irving's Private Label and Branded Customers, what motivates the shopper/consumer as well as understanding Irving's manufacturing capabilities. The individual needs strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships, as well as a strong storyteller. Success is achieved by enabling the growth and development of Irving's Private Label and Branded Portfolio with customers, while adhering to the positioning guidelines and growth objectives.

Job Requirements:

  • University/college degree in relevant discipline
  • Minimum 2-5 years of marketing experience, ideally in CPG with experience in brand and marketing strategy and execution
  • Familiarity with US customers is an asset
  • Leadership experience in managing agency resources in marketing and/or shopper marketing activation
  • Strong cross-functional and communication skills
  • Superior organization and planning abilities
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research techniques/methods
  • Solid knowledge and proven execution skills of marketing strategies and activations that drive results
  • Experience in CPG omni-channel

The main duties/responsibilities of this role will include:

Scotties Brand Management:

  • Strong understanding of the category, our customers, the competitive landscape/offerings along with Irving capabilities
  • Contribute to developing the strategy for Scotties facial tissue that includes the positioning along with the communication and support programs
  • Build out the channel strategy, including e-commerce
  • Lead the agency team and others to build out programs to execute the brand plan
  • Develop plans to grow sales and profitability
  • Prepare the yearly brand plan along with the required budget to execute the pl an

Private Brand/Irving Brand Management:

  • Be an active lead for the development of the retailer product and pack plans; being the point person for product and packaging changes and managing transitions by account/customer while ensuring Sales and Product Managers are aligned
  • Identify and recommend research projects to enhance knowledge of category opportunities and monitor brand health
  • Understand category trends and leverage data to gain insights on opportunities for Private Label
  • Develop Private Label brand plans and initiatives
  • Work closely with Sales and Category Shopper Development (CSD) to understand strategies and relationships linked to Private Label

Shopper Marketing:

  • Identify key insights from research including path to loyalty and U&A; synthesize learnings from the data and work with the team to close gaps
  • Identify category strategies to proactive activate and determine potential brands/partners
  • Develop best in-class programs, platforms, products, and packaging that are grounded in strategy and are aligned with our brands' and our customers' strategies
  • Incorporate optimal 5P plans and vehicles for the Category/Brand into Category Leadership Plans (CLP)

Additional Areas of Focus :

  • Improve and grow the cross functional alignment and communication process
  • Work with cross-functional partners to create a learning agenda that is part of the overall growth plan
  • Create test and learn scenarios that can be replicated for more sustainable growth
  • Ad hoc marketing team assignments and projects
