The Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council (CRIEC) is a not-for-profit organization that assists internationally trained professionals with developing and executing strategies leading to successful employment outcomes. Our vision is a welcoming community that encourages, fosters, and enables every person to reach their potential. CRIEC has successfully developed a solid mentorship program supporting the integration of newcomer professionals into the Canadian job market. More recently we have added resources to develop programming to support Canadian employers in developing an inclusive work environment, filling vacant job roles with international talent, and creating meaningful partnerships to strengthen the job market in Canada.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Communications Specialist who will report directly to the Communications Manager. The primary focus of this role is to create engaging content for our social media platforms and the monthly newsletter. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism and storytelling, with the ability to craft client-focused content such as features and testimonials. The role is part-time, working approximately 15-20 hours a week.

The primary responsibilities of the Communications Specialist are outlined as follows:

  • Content Creation
  • Work with the Communications Manager to develop and execute content strategies for social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and the monthly newsletter. This includes writing, editing, and curating content that resonates with CRIEC's audience and aligns with our brand voice.
  • Create compelling features and testimonials that highlight the experiences and successes of our clients. Conduct interviews and research to gather information for these pieces, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
  • Manage our social media presence by scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to comments and messages. Stay updated with social media trends and best practices to maximize our reach and impact.

Newsletter Development:

  • Curate content for the monthly newsletter, CRIEC Connect, including articles, event updates, and organizational announcements. Collaborate with other team members to ensure the newsletter is informative, engaging and accurate.

Communications Support:

  • Assist in the development of key communications pieces, like annual surveys, impact reports and reports for key stakeholders.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the Communications Manager and other team members to align content strategies with organizational goals and initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree or Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in communications, journalism, or related field
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Experience with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Mailchimp, etc)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing is a plus
