DESCRIPTION

We are an organization with two front doors - the Wilder Institute and the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. The Wilder Institute is a registered charity focused on wildlife conservation and bringing benefits to both nature and people. As a non-profit organization, our critical wildlife conservation work is made possible by the generosity of individuals, corporate donors, and government investment, as well as administrative and operational support through the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.

Marketing Strategist for the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo brand! Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Marketing Strategist will provide strategic council and play a pivotal role in developing and implementing marketing strategies to build brand awareness of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and drive attendance to the zoo. This is a key role within a high performing team in a fast-paced, agile environment and requires a professional who can develop and execute marketing plans and sales opportunities that gather insights, attract leads, improve sales and drive demand generation.

Salary: $72,000 - $85,000

What you will do:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. Identify target audiences and market segments to tailor messaging and campaigns effectively.
  • Audience Research: Conduct research to understand audience segments, including behavior, preferences, and demographics. Use audience data to inform marketing strategies and messages.
  • Market Research: Conduct market research, audience surveys, and competitive analysis to stay informed about industry trends, visitor feedback and emerging opportunities. Use insights to refine marketing strategies and adapt to changing market dynamics.
  • Brand Management: Maintain and promote a strong and consistent brand identity that reflects the organization's values and goals.
  • Campaign Management: Develop strategic marketing campaigns and media plans to effectively reach and engage target audiences through various channels such as radio, print, outdoor, and digital media.
  • Liaison with Agency Partners: Collaborate with external marketing agencies to develop creative concepts and execute marketing campaigns. Foster strong working relationships with agency partners to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with Tourism Partners: Work closely with tourism industry partners to identify opportunities for collaboration and cross-promotion.
  • Data Analysis: Monitor the performance of marketing campaigns and initiatives. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven improvements.
  • Budget Management: Manage marketing budgets effectively, allocating resources to maximize impact and ROI.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years experience in the marketing field; experience in travel, tourism and hospitality industry is an asset
  • Proven experience in marketing strategy development, preferably in the tourism, entertainment, or hospitality industry.
  • Strong creative and analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing and marketing data analytics tools and platforms, including Google Analytics, social media management tools, and email marketing software.
  • High energy, proactive and passionate project manager who is able to work within a dynamic environment delivering on multiple priorities
  • A self-motivated, flexible, responsive, and collaborative approach to achieving goal
  • Strong project management skills with a thorough understanding of traditional and digital marketing tools
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Office, marketing software and applications. Experience with graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office based with long periods working at a computer
  • Some lifting (heavy boxes, signs, tables, etc.)
  • May work evenings and weekends
  • May involve long periods of standing

The Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is a no smoking environment including vaping.
