Director, Communications and Public Relations. You will have a pivotal role in developing the comprehensive messaging strategies that effectively convey the University's vision, mission, and position on critical matters across various platforms.

As the Director, Communications and Public Relations, you will be the driving force behind a multifaceted team of communicators including writers, media specialists, photographers and videographers. You'll collaborate with the President, the University Executive Team, Academic and operational leaders to advance the strategic goals, attract students, and promote the research and programming excellence of the University. Your work will ensure that the University of Regina remains top of mind for key influencers.

What You'll Do:

  • Strategic Communications:
  • Provide proactive strategic communication leadership by offering expert guidance and counsel on a variety of matters to senior leadership.
  • You will develop and provide leadership on messaging, media and community relations, and play a key role in providing communications support for events and announcements.
  • Media Management:
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across faculties and units on campus regarding the development of messaging for media releases. These releases, crafted under your strategic guidance, are then disseminated and articulated by relevant faculty experts, ensuring the alignment of messaging with the University's overarching communication objectives.
Creative and Dynamic Leadership:
  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration to ensure a cohesive approach in promoting the image, vision, and impact of the University.
  • Drive the creation and oversight of communication resources, ensuring the delivery of high-quality materials through creativity and strategic utilization to support broader communication strategies.
Expert Advisor:
  • Offer expert guidance and counsel on a variety of matters to senior leadership, anticipating potential challenges or sensitivities before recommending a strategic approach.
Influence Engagement:
  • Attending various meetings, functions/events, and serve as an institutional representative to positively promote the University of Regina.
Develop Policy:
  • Develop and communication policies aligned with best practices and organizational goals, ensuring adaptability to dynamic media landscapes and measuring impacts to drive continuous improvement.
  • You will also advise on communications strategies to inform stakeholders of institutional policies.
Crisis Management:
  • Develop and lead communications strategies during an emergent or crisis event.

Position Requirements

What You'll Bring to the Position:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field; and
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience.
  • A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies that drive engagement and support organizational objectives.
  • Strong understanding of media relations, crisis communication, and reputation management principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of the University of Regina and its structure, mandate, policies, and processes.
  • Forward-thinking strategist adept at anticipating and addressing challenges, innovating solutions, and adapting strategies to meet evolving needs. Skilled in synthesizing information and making informed decisions to advance organizational goals with agility and foresight.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision, coaching, and evaluating staff, establishing strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Proficient experience with communication and media monitoring tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practice of media relations, including effective public speaking skills.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning processes and implementation of plans to align communication efforts with organizational goals.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data to formulate sound judgments and opinions, exercising good judgment in decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen, engage, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders with a proven track record of fostering meaningful partnerships and consensus-building to align communications strategies with organizational goals and achieve common objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian media landscape and understanding of issues facing the post-secondary education sector is an asset.
  • Physical Demands Pay Grade OOS 8 Salary Range $94,652 - $141,974 annually Status Permanent Work Hours

Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 4:30. Work outside of regular business hours will be required.
