RESPONSIBILITIES

The Divisional Manager of Communications and Marketing oversees a small team of professionals, while supporting the Divisional Secretary for Public Relations (DSPR) on matters relating to media relations, marketing and special events. The incumbent will regularly interface with public groups, corporations, and media, communicating the vital mission of The Salvation Army in a professional and effective manner. The Divisional Manager of Communications and Marketing protects the brand and reputation of The Salvation Army and actively seeks creative new ways to promote its mission and ministry in the community.

Key Responsibilities :

  • In conjunction with the DSPR, provide strategic and operational support to marketing and communications initiatives for BC Division.
  • Develops and or make recommendations on the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and communication strategy and accompanying materials.
  • Provides direct oversight to the design and maintenance of communications materials, i.e. website, brochures, signage, advertising, and brand awareness in consultation with the DSPRD.
  • Applies, monitors, and negotiates related communications projects and processes for the Division.
  • Consults on and establishes proactive measures and or measurement criteria to ensure the effective management of communications services and programs.
  • May design and present oral, written and electronic supportive materials for applicable projects, processes and training needs within the PR dept.
  • Ensures the on-going maintenance of internal client and program information as it relates to media, advertising and communications materials.
  • Performs statistical analyses in relevant areas of expertise.
  • Implements defined strategic initiatives.
  • In coordination with DSPR over-sees the planning and execution of all Divisional events.
  • Supervision of Marketing and Event Team.
  • Over-site regarding Divisional website and social media presence.
  • The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only.
  • He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees OR the incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed an Undergraduate University degree (e.g., B.A., B.Sc., B.Sc.N.). Has or is working towards a professional designation.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of prior related experience.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of media relations and the media landscape in BC
  • Strong understanding of social media, it's applications and how it works as part of a larger communications and marketing strategy
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) skills, including proficiency at public speaking.
  • Strong creative, analytical, organizational, and marketing skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, government and business leaders, and professionals.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality and an ability to model the values and standards of The Salvation Army.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Experience/working knowledge in word processing; spread sheet use.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, current original Driver's abstract is required; access to a personal vehicle for business purposes is also a requirement.
  • Provide an original copy of a Criminal Records Check (CRC) with vulnerable sector screening secured through either the national Canadian Police lnformation Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment; Note: A satisfactory criminal background check is required.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Support for and commitment to the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is considered a management position for the purposes of the Employment Standards

Act of British Columbia and as such is not covered by various ESA rules, including but not limited to those related to hours of work, daily and weekly rest periods, and overtime compensation. Salary is based on average minimum weekly hours of 37.5 per week and hours worked are compensated through the annual salary amount.

The incumbent carries a cell phone and is required to travel up to 30% of the time.

Use of a program vehicle is required when available however, there are times that the use of a personal vehicle will be required and a mileage reimbursement would be provided.
