An integrated, collaborative, interdisciplinary vaccine research team, the Canadian Center for Vaccinology (CCfV) is committed to developing, implementing and evaluating vaccine technologies and vaccines for infectious diseases that have a significant impact on Canadian and global health and training experts in these critical and evolving fields. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology, the Communications Coordinator provides internal and external communications support and works with the CAO to build and execute the overall communications strategy for CCfV. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop external communications strategies and plans, including, but not limited to: media, web, and social media.
  • Advise the Director and CAO on internal and external communications. Prepare internal communications for staff and build an internal communications strategy that supports employee engagement. Advise the Director and CAO on external communications issues and opportunities.
  • Develop and prepare documents, which may include strategies, internal/external reports, correspondence, and special applications, including grant applications.
  • Oversee the development of CCfV communication products including annual reports, website development and overall branding. Oversee and produce social media and web content.
  • Assist Project Coordinators and investigators with study recruitment plans and strategies.
  • Act as liaison with institutional partners on both proactive and reactive communications initiatives and issues. Act as media contact to coordinate responses to media from CCfV investigators.
  • Note Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or related field, with a minimum of 3 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience), is required. Strong problem-solving and leadership skills are required. Knowledge of institutional communications for Dalhousie University, IWK Health Centre, and Nova Scotia Health Authority is an asset. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, MS Project) as well as a strong understanding of social media and website platforms is essential. Demonstrated expertise in writing and editing various communications material such as reports, governance documents, policies and SOPS, etc. is required. Additional Information
