POSITION TYPE: Full-time, 37.5hrs/week (10 months contract, maternity leave)

SALARY: $54,500. A benefit package is offered in addition to salary

REPORTS TO: Spur Change Program Director

LOCATION: While the ACGC office is located in Edmonton, the successful applicants may be allowed to work remotely from locations across Canada

ANTICIPATED TRAVEL: 10% travel required within Canada.

BACKGROUND:

The Inter-Council Network (ICN) is a coalition of the eight Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation. The independent Councils are committed to global sustainable development, social justice and social change. They are rooted in communities across Canada and represent nearly 350 diverse civil society organizations (CSOs) from across Canada. Council membership varies from locally based cultural community civil society organizations to highly recognizable international organizations.

As part of the ICN, the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) aims to mobilize Albertans to become global citizens engaged in sustainable development. We do this by building the capacity of network organizations, representing members' interests with government and others, and increasing the awareness, knowledge, and connections of Albertans in global issues and sustainable development.

ACGC, on behalf of the Inter-Council Network, is undertaking a capacity building initiative entitled Spur Change: Knowledge Sharing & Capacity Building, to enhance the contribution of Canadian Small and Medium Organizations (SMOs) to Canada's international development efforts towards achieving gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, poverty reduction and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

PRIMARY DUTY & RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

  • Implement tactics in line with the communications strategy to support the engagement and participation of the key stakeholders and to ensure the timely and effective sharing of information.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of a social media strategy that will promote and publicize Spur Change events.
  • Develop and deploy bilingual creative materials (digital, print) .
  • Contribute to the Program's utilization of social media (Twitter, YouTube, blog) to promote events and share information.
  • Regularly update the Spur Change website as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance in the development of online courses and training.
  • Maintain the Spur Change resource library up-to-date and assist in its technical maintenance.
  • Develop and distribute monthly newsletters in both official languages.
  • Coordinate and oversee the translation of key documents as required.
  • Provide support to the planning of in-person and online events (conferences, capacity-building and learning opportunities).
  • Supervise the documentation of events and conferences with articles, videos and pictures.
  • Develop media campaigns including the creation of media kits, media releases, and resource materials.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Oversee the execution of the Spur Change Monitoring and Evaluation activities.
  • Develop the data collection tools (online surveys, questionnaires, roundtables) required in collaboration with the program's coordinators.
  • Coordinate and optimize the current data collection processes and tracking (disaggregated data per activities and resources, social media engagement).
  • Write, review and edit the various program reports to Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Other

  • Carry out additional tasks directly related to the successful implementation of the Spur Change Program.
  • Be responsible for working within the budget as assigned to the various areas of programming under this job description.
  • Maintain organized and comprehensive files.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Have expert communication skills in French and English (both written and verbal), and the ability to adapt communications style in a manner that is suitable and appropriate for various stakeholders.
  • Background and/or studies in public relations, communications, event coordination, communications, education or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with popular conferencing and communications media and platforms (WordPress, MailChimp, Hootsuite, among others).
  • Have demonstrated success in a similar role with a minimum of 2 years of communications experience (preferably in a non-profit setting).
  • Knowledge of results-based management and experience in monitoring and evaluation, data collection and analysis, and reporting.
  • Have excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to organize multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize activities.
  • Have a strong understanding of international development and cooperation combined with a good understanding of global citizenship and public engagement principles.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to respect the values and differences that all members of a small team bring to a work environment.
  • Have strong collaborative skills as the position involves working with different stakeholders (contractors, ICN staff members, GAC, etc.)
  • Have a proven ability to problem-solve and work independently.

Position Details:

This position will report directly to the Spur Change National Program Director and can be based at the ACGC office in Edmonton or candidate working from another location in Canada will be considered.
