POSITION OVERVIEW

  • Organizing for Change, a project on Tides Canada's shared platform, is a strategic initiative of environmental groups representing hundreds of thousands of British Columbians. We work at the localand provincial levels to advance policies that both protect BC's natural heritage and sustain jobs andprosperity over the long-term.
  • Currently, OFC groups are collaborating to create conservation stories in digital and visual media insupport of local initiatives. Working remotely in the Courtenay Alberni riding the Communications
  • Coordinator will plan, collect, create, and deliver this content to groups and local leaders. The successful applicant should have a valid BC driver's license, access to their own camera, and editing software.

Anticipated Start Date: as soon as possible after June 12th 2020

Location: Courtenay Alberni Riding (Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Port Alberni, Parksville, Tofino,Ucluelet)

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  • Follow Tides Canada Covid-19 guidelines at all times while performing OFC activities
  • Creating video and visual content
  • Creating social media content (Instagram, Facebook)
  • Website design
  • PowerPoint design
  • Assist in promotional material design and production
  • Assist in conducting interviews using Covid-19 safe practices
  • Assist in developing communications strategy
  • Assist in reporting results and sharing analytics

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Education:

  • Education relevant to writing and visual storytelling or equivalent experience
  • Preferred field of study involving Journalism, Videography, Photography, Media relations,

Communications

General experience and skills:

  • High level of skill in photography, editing photo and video, using social media platforms
  • Attention to detail
  • Comfortable with collaborative work and negotiation
  • Strong digital skills; ability to coach others in those skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Works well under tight time constraints
  • Demonstrated interest in OFC's field of work (environmental conservation, community

organizing, improved democratic processes)

  • Journalism experience strongly preferred
  • Brand management and strategy experience preferred

Hardware/Software Experience and Skills:

  • Preferred proficiency in Adobe suite
  • Must have own computer

Vehicle and Motorized Equipment Experience:

  • Successful applicant must have drivers licence and their own transportation

Working and Living Conditions

  • Successful applicant will be working from home with some local travel

As this position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs, the successful application must:

  • Be between the ages of 15-30 at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been
  • conferred
  • Be legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation.
