Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, the Director, Corporate Communications will lead the development and implementation of strategic communications for IGM Financial, IG Wealth Management and Mackenzie Investments, with a focus on IG Consultant (financial advisor) network engagement.

The individual will work collaboratively with senior management and business leads to develop effective communication strategies, ensuring consistent use of key messages across a range of activities and tailoring these messages toward specific audiences, including IG Wealth Management's network of 4,000+ financial professionals. The successful candidate will also take a lead role in editorial direction and will use his/her superior writing skills to draft and oversee editing for content for a range of internal and external audiences.

The role requires a thorough understanding of the business strategies across IGM, effective collaboration with business leaders, strong internal communications expertise, along with an external focus to integrate leading industry best practices and use analytics to drive effective engagement.

The Director is a member of the IGM Corporate Communications team located in Toronto and Winnipeg. This role is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba; occasional travel is required (e.g. to the other IGM offices in Canada).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead IG Wealth Management advisor communications' strategic planning and execution, working directly with senior leaders and their teams to drive a world-class communications experience for 4,000+ financial professionals across Canada
  • Support IGM corporate and Mackenzie Investments' external communications activities as needed
  • Provide counsel to leaders on communications strategies and approaches for engaging IG's advisor workforce and achieving business objectives
  • Identify new opportunities for communications to further the organization's strategic goals with a focus on innovative channels and tactics, including social media
  • Develop research-driven insights to continually enhance the impact of internal programs
  • Oversee, implement and measure the advisor communications program (with daily, weekly and monthly tactics) to ensure quality and maximize impact
  • Remain current on professional best practices, technology developments and thought leadership as it relates to internal engagement
  • Partner/collaborate with HR to support employee communications and ensure message consistency and integration as needed
  • Manage, execute and evaluate a variety of communications initiatives, including conference calls, webinars, and other activities to support and enhance advisor engagement and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate closely with 200+ person Brand, Marketing and Digital teams to leverage all channels and optimize integrated communications that drive IGM's strategy and goals
  • Manage and motivate a team of communications professionals

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications or College diploma in Communications/Public Relations strongly preferred; additional designation is an asset
  • A journalism/writing background is an important asset
  • At least 10 years' experience in corporate communications and possessing both internal and external (e.g. media relations, social media) expertise
  • Proven experience working within the financial services industry
  • Strong project management capabilities including managing conflicting priorities
  • Must be a very strong and flexible writer- able to tailor and adapt written pieces for a variety of audiences
  • Superior research and editing skills that drive compelling content across multiple channels and platforms (digital, print and in-person)
  • Versed in all forms of organizational communications including creative, video production, print production, social media, digital and intranets
  • Experience in using Google Analytics and other measurement tools to refine and enhance the impact of communications
  • Superior relationship building skills, with an ability to influence and partner with senior executives on complex, and often time-sensitive, initiatives
  • A proactive, creative approach and mindset favouring partnership, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Trusted to understand and manage sensitive communication issues and challenges
