We have a new and exciting opportunity in our Administration Department supporting the Mayor's Office. This is an exempt, full-time position.

WHAT IS THE SCOPE OF THE WORK?

  • We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive team player who can also work independently in a fast-paced and flexible working environment.
  • Our office depends on the strength of relationship building and being effective and diplomatic in interactions with key stakeholders, fellow staff members and guests.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for planning and implementing communication priorities and strategies for best messaging, coordination of the Mayor's goals, objectives, and outcomes.
  • This position includes professional communications planning, writing, research and support for the Mayor and the Mayor's Office.
  • The focus will be to ensure the delivery of consistent and accurate messaging through collaboration with internal departments.
  • The Communications Coordinator works in collaboration with Corporate Communications to develop and implement an effective communications plan which includes media strategies and materials that support the City's strategic plan. This person will review public communication including social media channels, monitors all media for references to the Mayor, Council or the City of Maple Ridge, sets up media interviews for the Mayor, and assists in preparation of media releases.

Have strength in relationship building and be effective and diplomatic in your interactions with key stakeholders. Have a high level of professional ethics, ability to deal professionally and effectively with all Stakeholders, including Council, Staff at all levels and the media;

Strong interpersonal and relationship building capacity and the ability to work in a collaborative environment;

Have exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effective and succinctly communicate complex concepts about diverse public policy, legislative and municipal related issues;

Experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, or related political science field, knowledge of or experience with the legislative process and the Local Government Act;

Strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle simultaneous priority projects and meet established deadlines; and,

Working knowledge of social media channels computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Canadian Press Style standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by a minimum 2-year diploma/certificate from a recognized educational institution or an equivalent combination of directly related education, training and experience;
  • Track record of producing clear and compelling content on deadline for diverse audiences;

Excellent writing, editing, analysis, and verbal communications skill;

  • Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License;
  • International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or Canadian Public Relations Association (CPRS) accreditation is considered an asset.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is a new full-time position. The incumbent will be required to work 80 hours bi-weekly, with occasional evening and weekends, as needed. A probationary review will be conducted by the Mayor and Chief Administrative officer (CAO) after six (6) months or as needed.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment. (Note
