WORK ILLUSTRATION:

The Graphic Designer is a versatile professional who can conceptualize and execute beautifully designed graphics, including print (posters, brochures, newsletters and corporate reports), digital (presentations, social media and web) and multimedia (photography, video and animation). The Graphic Designer must be comfortable working closely with internal clients in time-sensitive situations to take designs from an initial concept to final production. The incumbent is expected to behave ethically and follow the established code of business conduct, policies and internal control procedures, laws and regulations governing Toronto Hydro.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create designs, from initial concept to final production, that are consistent with brand guidelines
  • Accountable for brand consistency across campaigns and assets
  • Participate in design sessions and contribute through creative concepts and creative input
  • Involved in the conceptualization and design of graphic applications from concept to completion
  • Work closely and collaboratively with internal teams to support design needs and ad-hoc requests
  • Remain current with new design techniques and trends

COMPETENICES:

  • University degree or college diploma in Graphic Design or related field
  • Registered Graphic Designer (RGD)
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in the graphic design field
  • A strong portfolio

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency using the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Knowledge of digital design process and best practices, including image optimization, responsive design, digital accessibility, and basic Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
  • Working knowledge of video editing and animation to be used for corporate videos
  • Understanding of user experience design (UX)
  • Expert level PowerPoint skills
  • Proven skills in typography, layout, composition, colour theory and information design
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and operate in a fast-paced work environment
  • Open-minded and able to effectively implement constructive feedback
  • Ability to deal with a broad spectrum of internal clients and external vendors diplomatically and tactfully, fostering co-operative and collaborative working relationships
