JOB OVERVIEW:

The Communications & Community Engagement Lead is a multi-faceted position responsible for all aspects of internal and external communications at Terra, with a strong emphasis on raising Terra's profile in the community.

By creating and sharing Terra stories with a range of external stakeholders, this role plays a key role in inspiring support from the community. As a member of the Resource Development team, this role also supports fund development initiatives including fundraising events, donor stewardship activities and community fundraising.

As the department is rapidly growing, the ideal candidate will thrive in dynamic environments and is excited by new opportunities and managing a diverse portfolio of projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Play a leadership role in Terra's external communications including developing and executing social media strategy, developing communications pieces (community report, cases for support, newsletters, donor updates etc.)
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the agency's communication strategy, which reflects internal and external communication priorities, as well as additional communication plans
  • Develop and execute strategies to identify new fundraising opportunities and initiatives with corporations, community groups, or through third party giving
  • Play a lead role in crafting Terra stories and actively seek opportunities to share those stories with partners, donors, stakeholders and the community at large.
  • Support the creation of donor-centred fundraising materials including but not limited to drafting cases for support, donor presentations, proposals, thank you letters and impact reports
  • Play a key role in the planning and execution of donor events and stewardship activities including Deep Roots, Terra Tours and other special thank you initiatives
  • Support the communication needs of the C5 partnership

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY SKILLS

  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in communications/marketing in a non-profit environment. Business development or event coordination is considered an asset.
  • College or university diploma/degree. Preference will be given to candidates with education in event management, business, communications, public relations, non-profit management.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fund development and donor stewardship best practices.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills; demonstrated ability to work productively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to identify, promote and achieve fundraising priorities.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with diverse stakeholders; strong active listening skills and the ability to adapt messaging to different audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check dated within 30 days of commencement.

Personal vehicle and valid class 5 driver's license is required.

Job Conditions

The Communications & Community Engagement position is permanent full-time role (37.5 hours/week) working out of Terra's downtown office (9930 106 Street NW). The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, however hours of work will vary based on the needs of the position and agency. This may include working occasional evenings and weekends.
