Your Opportunity:

Working under the direction of the Director, Experiential Education & Community Engagement and as part of the Experiential Education Unit (EEU), the Manager, Community Engagement & Special Projects is responsible for managing the operations and staff responsible for curricular and academic-focused community engaged learning initiatives, services, and resources. Responsibilities of this position include: planning, implementing and assessing key sections of the EEU's strategic plan; promoting and advancing the role of community engagement on campus so that, together with student learning and research excellence, it is understood as foundational to UTM's direction and identity; identifying, supporting, and further enabling community-university engagement scholars and champions to raise UTM's profile; and ensuring that UTM scholars are more accessible to external communities. The Manager will work collaboratively with various UTM academic units and campus partners in the development of campus strategies, annual plans, and priorities aimed at increasing curricular and academic-focused community engagement activities, while also furthering accessibility, equity, and inclusion.

The Manager will be responsible for training staff regarding the UTM Community Engagement Inventory and all related communications. The incumbent will also spearhead new initiatives and projects for the EEU, including funding proposals; initiate and identify the nature of this research on a wide variety of issues and topics; provide advice; and ensure ongoing pro-activity on matters of importance and interest to the portfolio. The incumbent works in a complex environment that requires a high degree of sensitivity, responsiveness, and a need to maintain absolute confidentiality. The incumbent must present a professional image by interacting knowledgeably and courteously with members of the University including senior administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community members.

You will contribute to the mission by:

Managing the operations of curricular and academic-focused community engagement activities, programs, and resources by developing and implementing strategic initiatives, in collaboration with key UTM stakeholders

Overseeing the delivery of all curricular and academic-focused community engagement programs and events, ensuring adequate resources, training, and evaluation. Defining the scope, timelines, required resources, and implementation plan for projects.

Establishing the overall annual action plans for the Community Engagement Inventory and all special projects ensuring mechanisms are in place to monitor and evaluate results and provides feedback for continuous improvement.

Ensuring high quality user-experience and fostering engagement between UTM and community partners.

In consultation with the Director, leading the strategic planning process for the Community Engagement portfolio ensuring a shared vision is developed, communicated, and aligned with the UTM Academic Plan and University's key priorities.

Participating in UTM and tri-campus committees and presenting on learning outcomes and metrics, while attending key sessions aimed at fostering tri-campus dialogue and collaboration in the area of community engagement and special projects.

Developing and maintaining reports and proposals for the Director based on knowledge of curricular and academic-focused community engagement programs and initiatives, operational statistics, and short and long-term objectives.

Providing input to the Director, Experiential Education, on the development of the annual operating budget, preparing budget proposals, and assisting in long-range projections, while demonstrating fiscal responsibility.

Maintaining ongoing and and actively seeking out and developing, new relationships and collaborations with UTM stakeholders and community partners that will result in strategic partnership opportunities and community engagement possibilities within and for the University.

Establishing partnerships with internal and external organizations to leverage their resources to support community engagement and special projects initiatives. Drafting and implementing Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs), Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs), and Partner Agreements.

What you will bring to the role:

University degree and/or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 5 years of experience within experiential education environment.

Experience in policy review, policy interpretation, and review of legal documentation.

Experience in the design and development of tracking and monitoring systems for large volumes of documentation.

Experience working with external partners from a broad range of industries (e.g., education, governmental agencies, professional associations/organizations) that demonstrates understanding of stakeholder needs.

Knowledge in program development and assessment/evaluation strategies.

Experience managing staff with a strong understanding of collective agreement administration and managing in a unionized environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills, with experience in training and presenting to a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels
