Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is currently searching for a Communications Specialist to join our team in Burnaby!

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for planning and executing corporate communication strategies and activities that support the goals of the organization, strengthen the organization's reputation, and engage and align staff. This includes developing and implementing internal communication strategies, providing communications support to Executives and other internal stakeholders, advancing strategic initiatives, writing corporate reports, and providing support for social media.

  • Planning and executing corporate communications strategies, activities, and programs
  • Aligning staff to corporate strategies by informing, influencing, and engaging; creating communications plans surrounding the organization's Strategic Plan
  • Participating on the project team for the organization's Annual Report by developing content and copy for the report and working with internal subject matter experts to verify information and statistics
  • Engaging with various stakeholders and conducting research to form an understanding of relevant issues; writing corporate reports and letters based on this research for delivery to stakeholders
  • Providing communications support to Council, the Executive team, and other internal stakeholders including presentation development, scripting, messaging, email support, providing guidance and advice, and working with other staff to ensure communication is accurate, informed, and reflects organizational positions on key issues
  • Develops and executes communications strategies and content that support organizational governance, including the Council nomination and election process and the Annual General Meeting
  • Supporting the organization's social media communication, including creating and scheduling content, tracking key metrics, and identifying opportunities to make improvements; providing key back-up coverage for regular social media posting
  • Supporting internal communications; working alongside Human Resources, the Executive Team, and others to build a program to support ongoing and consistent communication to staff on key issues
  • Evaluating current internal communication strategies and channels and providing suggestions for improvement and optimization
  • Supporting the growth and evolution of the Intranet by overseeing its content strategy and being part of its publishing team
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


The successful applicant will possess the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in communications or public relations
  • Experience in a member's association or regulatory body is preferred
