About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Social Media Specialist to join our dynamic Communications team in our Public Affairs Division. The work of the Social Media Specialist is integral to Canadian Blood Services' role as Canada's Lifeline.

In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge corporate social media strategies, policies, and programs for Canadian Blood Services. You will be the lead subject matter expert responsible for delivering communications products and services to social communities. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to tell our story: from blood, platelets and plasma to stem cells, financial donations, and organs and tissues, ensuring consistency in voice and cultivating a strong social media network. You will create content that builds the brand, drives awareness, generates traffic to our websites, and drives appointments and registrations, while also protecting our reputation.

Key responsibilities include:

Manage social media channels for Canadian Blood Services, including promotion of programs and services, community engagement, protecting Canadian Blood Services' reputation, provide effective monitoring, crisis management, reporting, and content curation, including social media response development for our contact centre.

  • Create and manage creative multimedia content on social media platforms through multi-divisional collaboration, while ensuring all content is on-brand, engaging and aligned to the corporate editorial strategy.
  • Develop and implement the social media strategy, policies, and guidelines for the organization's social media presence.
  • Monitor and analyze all social activity related to Canadian Blood Services. Play a key role in identifying and mitigating potential threats or risks; monitor public discussion and collaborate with colleagues to immediately respond and, if necessary, course correct.
  • Collaborate with groups across the company to support marketing campaigns, public relations, and corporate priorities, translating communication objectives into clear creative strategies.

Qualifications:

Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution is essential, preferably in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or New Media.

  • 5+ years of communications-related experience; including content marketing, content management, analytics, public relations, brand marketing, and social media management.
  • Advanced knowledge of HootSuite or other similar social media management systems.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of popular social media platforms their audiences and how to integrate them into wider digital strategies.
  • Excellent ability to communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format and build and maintain relationships.
  • Clear, concise writing style appropriate to audience and genre; secure grasp of spelling/ grammar/ punctuation fundamentals.
  • Team player, with the confidence to guide other departments when necessary.
  • Good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.

Required skills:

Demonstrated success in digital communications role, with an emphasis on developing new platforms and social media strategies.

  • Establishing digital communications measurement, plans and tracking results and analyzing and reporting on outcomes; evaluation of digital communications key performance indicators.
  • Extensive experience in crisis communications and risk management in the digital realm.
  • Expert content creator and marketer.
  • Proven ability to increase online traffic through social media campaigns.
  • Ability to synthesize and analyze research and information from multiple sources to test, optimize, refine, and recommend online strategies and solutions.
  • Working and collaborating effectively with colleagues from different specialties (i.e., HR, government relations, marketing, communications, etc.) and at different levels.
  • Managing and selecting vendors.
