General Information:

Majestic mountains, the rugged West Coast Trail, serene lakes, and one of the world's tallest free-standing timber rail trestles all lie in the picturesque Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD). Located on Vancouver Island, the CVRD provides a wide range of local government services to a population of 80,000 within its 4 distinct municipalities and 9 electoral areas. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for the Planning Communications Assistant position in the Planning - Strategic Initiatives / Community Planning Divisions within the Land Use Services Department.

The Planning Communications Assistant is responsible for providing communications and administrative support to the Community Planning and Planning - Strategic Initiatives Divisions, and general support to the Land Use Services Department (LUSD). The Planning Communications Assistant will undertake a variety of communications and administrative tasks including implementing communications strategies on behalf of the Divisions; document design, preparation, and editing; standard administrative tasks such as word processing, data entry, filing, and photocopying; and front-line customer service for the Divisions. As required, this position provides administrative back-up support to other divisions within Land Use Services and back-up receptionist duties for the CVRD main reception. Qualifications:

  • Secondary school graduation plus completion of a post-secondary certificate in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of related professional experience in administration and / or communications / marketing / public engagement
  • Demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Suite programs for document creation and editing
  • Experience in BC local government is considered an asset
  • Experience working in the field of community planning or land use planning is considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Class 5 BC Driver's License (please include a driver's abstract with your application)

Hours of Work:

Guaranteed 35 hours of work per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and eligible for flex time. This position may be required to attend some evening and weekend meetings. This position is eligible for Work-From-Home consideration. Salary:

Wage rate in 3 steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $30.99 - $31.88 - $32.84 per hour (January 1, 2021 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement. Application Instructions:
