Position Profile :

Under the direction of the Director Integrated Systems and Partnerships, with a dotted line to the VP Strategy and External Relations, the Senior Writer/Communications Specialist plays a leading role in fostering a positive image of North Western Toronto Ontario Health Team (NWT OHT), to patients and families, staff, physicians, volunteers, and the general public and community leaders.

The Senior Writer/Communications will assist by promoting the achievements of the NWT OHT.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or in assist communications activities designed to positively promote the NWT OHT within the public and professional communities.
  • Develop an NWT OHT Brand
  • Support the build and lead the development of content for the OHT website
  • Develop and lead implementation of OHT communication strategies and initiatives with the team including establishing, coordinating, and monitoring task schedules
  • Provide a summary of projects, story developments and activities to Director on a consistent basis.
  • Recommend and assist in delivering an ongoing strategy for nurturing relationships with key media influencers.
  • Develop and submit articles profiling the OHT to professional publications.
  • Attend designated OHT functions and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or higher degree in Journalism or Communications - A combination of post-secondary education and/or practical experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in corporate communications or mainstream media.
  • Practical experience in media relations and reporting.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communications, both verbal and written.
  • Resourceful, organized, able to work within deadlines and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Effective critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills in a fast paced, complex and continually changing environment.
  • Awareness of and ability to skillfully manage sensitive or private information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a team environment
  • The ability to liaise with all levels of an organization to ensure coordination, consistency and timely information sharing.
  • Proficiency with computer software programs - MS Word, Power Point, Illustrator; InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.

Location: Humber River Hospital with attendance at NWT OHT partner sites as required
