Alberta Health Services' Community Engagement & Communications team is seeking a fulltime Communications Manager for the Central Zone Communications team. You will join our Central Zone Communications team and work with other teams throughout the Community Engagement and Communications department and organization to strategically manage issues, develop and implement communications and proactive media pitches from a variety of program areas, and deliver guidance to assigned portfolios. The Manager will have responsibility for actively identifying and mitigating challenges that may arise through issues management, as well as implementing proactive engagement and collaboration when opportunity presents. Responsible for planning and delivering strategic communications to key portfolios within the Zone and on a provincial level, this role will work on high-profile projects like Connect Care, redevelopment of the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and Public Health. Additionally, as the primary back up to the Central Zone Director, this position must maintain critical relationships with a significant number of internal and external leaders and partners, as well as with media and government partners. Ongoing collaboration with, and support of, other members of the Central Zone team is part of day-to-day routine.
As a communications manager you will: Identify and manage risks associated with the Zone programs, sites and services. Provide and lead both proactive and reactive issues management addressing emergency and unanticipated internal or external communication challenges. Develop and implement strategic communications plans of complex and advanced nature. Develop key messaging, briefing notes, speaking notes, etc., in consultation with key stakeholders (both internal and external, including government). Manage media requests and coverage, including identifying appropriate spokespeople, preparing spokespersons for media, arranging venues and events. Identify, develop and maintain critical relationships with AHS senior leaders and managers, media, community partners and public Collaborates with Community Engagement and supports their efforts within the Zone for regular interaction with key external partners including but not limited to Indigenous leaders and communities, post-secondary partners, Covenant Health, Saskatchewan Health Authority, RCMP, municipalities, Chambers of Commerce and school boards. Develop and implement proactive communications, including media releases and pitches, for a variety of programs and health initiatives. Advise and consult with program leaders, staff, and physicians on communications opportunities and challenges. Ensure the alignment, integration and coordination of communication efforts that advance the brand, image and reputation of AHS at a corporate, provincial and Zone level Act on behalf of the Central Zone Communications Director as required.

Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism. At a minimum, 7 years of internal/external communications experience. Two of more years supervisory experience in a Communications or similar field. A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development.

Preferred Qualifications :
Five or more years progressive experience in healthcare. Experience and understanding of health systems and government structures preferred.
