Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, the Director of Corporate Communications is a hands-on, operational team leader that works collaboratively across Ontario Health to deliver targeted strategic communications plans that support the organizational mandate and objectives. The Director is an experienced, creative and highly motivated person who will oversee a team of advisors and manager(s) responsible for internal communications and partnering with corporate portfolios in the development and execution of communication plans for major programs, initiatives, and projects.

Here is what you will be doing:

Lead a team responsible for developing, executing and monitoring the implementation of comprehensive communications' strategies using integrated strategic communications tools;

Lead the implementation of a team structure and processes necessary to deliver effective communications advice and support to portfolios and programs within Ontario Health;

Develop and implement a comprehensive and impactful internal communication strategy for Ontario Health, linking strategy with vision, mission and values;

In partnership with HR and leaders, oversee and deliver engaging and informative organization wide internal communications events such as townhalls and forums;

Create measurement tools that monitor the effectiveness of the organization's communication channels and determine best practice measures to ensure effectiveness;

Work cross-functionally with other Directors and senior leaders, across the organization, in the development of communications plans, materials and the coordination of communication initiatives and events;

Drive innovation and creativity by looking for new ways of working, exploring best practices, emerging trends, and challenging communication channels in new and digital ways;

Direct a team of communications professionals, facilitating teamwork and a customer-focused approach to advising and service delivery;

Utilize a change management approach, build a high-performing and engaged team;

Act as a pivotal strategic partner and consultant to leaders across Ontario Health.

Here is what you will need to be successful:

Education and Experience

A minimum of 10 years of progressive communications and leadership experience

Undergraduate degree required. Post-degree diploma or degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field is an asset

Experience leading a team of communications professionals and extensive knowledge of communications best practices

Experience advising, influencing and delivering communication services to leaders is required

Experience working in a health-care environment preferred with expertise in communicating complex issues to multiple audiences

Demonstrated experience leading, developing and implementing internal communications strategies

Direct experience working with and advising senior leaders

A big picture thinker with strategic communications planning and problem-solving abilities that demonstrate an ability to influence and lead others

Demonstrated leadership in the areas of reputational management and crisis communications required

Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly translate it to compelling communications to reach varying audiences required

Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills with the ability to use good judgment for assessing and responding to difficult situations and prioritizing competing deliverables

Calm under pressure, a multi-tasker, excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results on demand

Flexible and resourceful with the highest degree of professionalism

Results oriented with the ability to work in a self-directed and independent manner required

Proven ability to mentor and coach junior staff to grow into emerging leaders required

Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and frequent changes

Bilingualism is an asset

Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time

Location: Ontario (currently virtual; subject to change)
