JOB PURPOSE:

The Marketing & Communications Assistant will provide support to the Manager of Marketing and Communications. This is a temporary role budgeted for a maximum 14-week term to assist in building awareness of the United Way British Columbia (UWBC) brand and the impact of investments. Responsibilities will include motivating individuals and companies to donate for the first time or renew/increase their donations. This temporary role will promote the work of UWBC and specifically build awareness on key social issues in our geographic area north of Malahat on Vancouver Island. This is a hands-on role that will provide a good learning opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career path towards a marketing, communications, or fundraising job, specifically in the non-profit industry.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare donor-centric materials for fundraising campaign, community impact, reporting and donor stewardship including: posters, newsletters, annual reports, e-blasts, press releases, community specific materials and impact stories

Develop and edit content specifically for the United Way British Columbia- CNVI or UWBC website, which may include interview with external agencies

Create social media posts and support strategic social media campaigns

Attend staff and departmental meetings to gain insight, knowledge and offer support

Support the province-wide marketing and communications department as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

High School graduate

Experience using Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Excellent written and verbal communications

Experience with social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram)

Knowledge of marketing and communications best practice considered an asset

Experience with graphic design and digital material creation considered an asset

Experience in an office environment an asset

Ability to represent the department and the organization in a professional, competent manner

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is funded through the Canada Summer jobs program and candidates must meet those requirements which include being between 15 and 30 years of age and having status as a Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee. Work schedule is Monday to Thursday, 8:30 to 4:30, primarily in-office. Would consider remote work if located in the central and northern Vancouver Island region.

Some hours outside of business hours to attend meetings and events

The hourly pay rate for this position is $18.00/hr.
