The Community and Partner Engagement department is looking for an experienced and dynamic individual to fill the role of Communications and Engagement Officer. We are looking for a senior level communicator experienced in media relations, strategic communications planning, public engagement, internal and stakeholder communications, crisis communications and issues management for this exempt role at the City.
Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Engagement, you will supervise a small team of communications professionals and provide strategic and tactical communications and community engagement deliverables to the City. You will assist the Manager by overseeing the creation and implementation of dynamic communications and civic engagement strategies and activities; oversee graphic standards, print and digital materials; promote success stories to ultimately increase citizen participation and promote awareness of City programs and services. You will also liaise between City departments, stakeholders, and partners, and ensure all communications campaigns are executed full circle, maximized and evaluated. Other responsibilities include proactive and reactive media relations, issues management and leading communications in emergency situations.
Your qualifications include a degree in communications or media relations, with considerable relevant work experience in a supervisory capacity, preferably in a municipal environment. A thorough understanding of the technologies and tools specific to the development of print and online materials, website, digital, apps and social media platforms, is required. You will also have demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills and thrive in a fast paced environment. Considerable background in strategic communications planning, critical thinking, creativity with a keen sense of design esthetics, and excellent written communications round out your technical skill set. A valid class 5 BC Driver's License is required.
