The Director of Sales & Marketing will develop and manage the execution of the sales strategy within a functional area ensuring alignment with Coast's Sales & Marketing strategy. The successful candidate will provide superior customer service, act as an advisor, and sell products and/or services for the functional area in adherence with business development targets while maximizing operational efficiencies, customer service, and profitability. The Director of Sales & Marketing will also provide work direction to an administrative or technical work group.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Creates and implements a sales and marketing plan and measurable objectives that supports the company's overall strategy, i.e. preparing and submitting project plans, business cases, and proposed budgets, directing and overseeing the organization and execution of sales campaigns and participates in tradeshows or other promotions

  • Communicates goals to others, including team members, other Leaders, etc.
  • Collaborates with other Managers, Supervisors, and Ambassadors to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the functional area and organization; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
  • Reviews departmental plan and performance to identify areas for improvement that would contribute to enhanced business performance and to identify opportunities that would support business growth
  • Considers the product/service delivered and maintaining the product/service relative to the Coast brand and image, including maintaining accurate and organized files and records and completing documentation related to the sales function
  • Attends industry and/or professional events or conferences to maintain industry/professional knowledge and network with industry peers
  • Understands what is going on in the operation, forecasts and proactively addresses needs and situations, i.e. implementing sales processes, policies, systems and practices that contribute to effective procedures
  • Focuses on short-and long-term priorities, maintaining a big picture perspective
  • Adheres to departmental budgets and prioritizes resource allocations appropriately
  • Communicates and monitors company policies and practices and how they relate to Sales; establishes and communicates clear objectives, targets, and operational standards
  • Ensures departmental compliance to relevant legislation and regulations (i.e., WSBC, employment standards, collective agreements)
  • Provides guidance to Ambassadors on Sales issues as they relate to the operation, corporately or within the property
  • Provides formal and informal recognition to acknowledge the demonstration of excellent performance and adherence to the Coast Values
  • Proactively contributes to the development of the culture within Sales & Marketing in alignment with the Coast Values and desired culture
  • Supports the attainment of desired Ambassador Survey Index results and works with the team to implement improvements based on feedback
  • Creates an environment that is motivating and engaging
  • Handles internal/external concerns related to the sales function within the functional area
  • Demonstrates a superior customer service attitude with internal/external contacts
  • Resolves guest service issues, and identifies potential barriers to guest services; works with others to remove barriers to service excellence across Coast's operation
  • Anticipates and is flexible to the changing needs of guests as special events and circumstances arise
  • Maintains an awareness of evolving expectations, trends, and technologies within area of specialty and works to ensure that Coast stays competitive
  • Contributes to sales systems, structures, and practices to ensure consistency in the delivery of the brand and the guest experience for a property or multiple properties
  • Maintains industry and professional expertise by participating actively in industry and/or professional events and conferences, reviewing relevant industry communication and analyst reports; builds an effective network within the industry and/or profession
  • Lives the Coast Values and reflects the brand in the community; fosters a positive image of Coast in the community
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma or degree in related area
  • 6 years of experience in a sales role, with a minimum of 4 years of sales experience in the hotel industry
  • Advanced level in the use of MS Office
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Proven ability to sell and meet set sales/performance targets in a senior sales role
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to support the building of strong relationships with diverse groups of people
  • Industry-specific certification such as Sales Manager (i.e. emerit)
  • Aware of and understands how own area of the business performs (makes money, conserves costs, etc.)
  • Advanced problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking ability
  • Experience in discussing performance issues with team members and providing direct and honest feedback when discussing career advancement and leading performance expectations
  • Not content with the status quo; driven to create positive change and growth
  • Exemplifies Coast's core values and enjoys working in a culture of accountability
