Job Description

Shopify's mission is to make commerce better for everyone. To deliver on that promise, we're building a unified commerce platform that allows anyone, anywhere to pursue independence through entrepreneurship.

In doing so, we've also built up another valuable platform: an audience. Through our owned channels, we share stories to help inspire, motivate, and educate entrepreneurs as they face wholly new challenges on the road to building their businesses. As a Writer/Content Marketing Manager, you'll help plan, write, and shepherd these stories. Working within our world-class editorial team, you'll contribute to the editorial calendar with feature stories, educational guides, and merchant stories.

Your responsibilities and impact will run the gamut. But your "One Thing" is pitching, researching, and writing first-rate editorial content for Shopify's core audience of entrepreneurs. You'll work alongside our Editorial & Media pod of nearly 60 people to support our overall mission: build the best and most popular media destinations for entrepreneurs.

Things you'll get to do:

Write and edit first-rate content. You need first-class writing talent and a knack for distilling complex ideas into plain language. Whether writing long-form guides or micro-copy, you work hard to make every word matter-even under a tight deadline.

Scale an editorial calendar. Strategy is a team sport, so you'll work closely with our Data Science, Market Insights, SEO, and Comms teams to develop a research-informed content marketing strategy that serves our merchants and our growth objectives.

Drive business results. You're comfortable working in a marketing team that's inspired by insight but guided by data. You'll be right at home using the data resources available at Shopify to prove our editorial strategy is having an impact.

Set the standard. The right person won't just meet our current standards for quality; they'll elevate us to new heights. It's an exciting time to help grow Shopify's editorial program, and we need people who are motivated to define and continually evolve what ?great work? means for our team.

Requirements for the role:

Experience in a content marketing role. Bonus if you've worked at a technology company. You have a track record for producing content that moves the needle, and you've helped define and been accountable to clear goals and KPIs. There's no cutoff for years of experience-it's about how you've spent the years.

Familiarity with industry-standard SEO software (e.g., Ahrefs, SEMRush) and analytics software (e.g., Google Analytics, Mode) is a plus, but not a requirement.

You have a knack for building streamlined processes for editorial teams and know how to efficiently manage projects, expectations, and your own time.

An obsession with understanding your readers (our merchants) and how Shopify's products fulfill their needs. And, a genuine interest in where entrepreneurship and commerce are headed.

Submitting your application

Please include three writing samples along with your application-live links are preferred, but we can also review PDFs.

In lieu of a cover letter, please send a story pitch for a topic you'd like to cover on Shopify's /blog (short, only a paragraph or two is needed). You aren't expected to know Shopify's audience inside and out, we'll only be evaluating the thoughtfulness of your pitch!
