The Manager, Communications & Public Affairs is responsible for the development and execution of communication programs and initiatives to effectively enhance the awareness and understanding of the REAL brand (both internally and externally), increasing awareness of the organization's offerings and ultimately, to build and maintain connections with general public, stakeholders, public and private partnerships and government relations. This position acts as spokesperson for REAL and is responsible for managing, coordinating and positioning communications with municipal, provincial or federal governments and a variety of community stakeholders.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The role leads, oversees and manages REAL's Communications and Public Relations strategies and activities by:
Developing and overseeing all internal and external brand/corporate communications for REAL, ensuring appropriate execution and that messaging is consistent, aligned with brand standards and engaging.
Curating and leveraging REAL's social channels to support and develop REAL's brand identity, awareness and online reputation. Preparing and distributing media releases, media kits, fact sheets and other print or electronic materials as required.
Planning and advancing opportunities on a regular, ongoing basis for media to share REAL's brand, events, facilities, developments and initiatives.; Acts as spokesperson for REAL as required
Engaging key public affairs stakeholders within the community and at all levels of government to align public/community relations activities and strategies.
Leading proactive media outreach effort to enhance REAL's relationship with key media contacts through coordination and delivery of media briefings, site tours, etc. to ensure media is educated, aware and responsive to REAL as an organization along with the activities on campus.

Apply today if you meet the following requirements:
Post-secondary education in journalism, new media communications, public relations or other relevant field.
5+ years of experience in journalism, media communications, public or community relations.
Experience managing or coordinating the work of others to achieve business outcomes.
A strong record of accomplishment in writing and editing a variety of formats (print, digital and social).
Experience working in fast-paced, complex office environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.
Strong knowledge of media landscape at local and nation/international levels.
Demonstrated ability to exercise diplomacy, build rapport and maintain effective relationships and influence and persuade outcomes with employees, government and industry personnel, and other stakeholders.
Experience working in a unionized environment is an asset. Working hours will vary based on operational requirements.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for the duration of employment.
