As we continue to grow our growing resort, we are looking for outstanding associates to join our Friday Harbour team.

Role Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for assisting with developing and executing strategic marketing and communication plans for the Resort. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert in all marketing and communications related activities through various channels with the objective of driving and attaining high traffic to Friday Harbour. The Marketing and Communications Manager will also launch and manage new products, services and associated brands to meet profitability goals through effective marketing and communications programs. This role will continue to maintain and develop marketing and communications strategies via various media including print, digital, web, email and social media.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Marketing and Events Director and within approved budget parameters, develop and execute a marketing plan targeted to specific market segments and seasons
  • Oversee the development and execution of a communication plan to inform homeowners and members of key resort information, to foster and maintain a sense of belonging within the community
  • Responsible for developing and executing a communications plan to leisure customers, to build loyalty and attract new visitors
  • Oversee media contacts and host visits for individuals and groups
  • Ensure consistent and cohesive messaging that speaks to the community at large
  • Create and develop initiatives and communication plans to position Friday Harbour as the premier Resort in North America
  • Provide leadership to the marketing and communications team
  • Independently or through a third-party service provider, design, develop and execute media plans using various collaterals to ensure maximum return on investment
  • Develop and edit all written materials, including promotional materials, media releases, email communications, website copy and social media postings
  • Responsible for the development and execution of special event messaging and promoting on public websites and social media platforms to build brand awareness, loyalty and attract the local community
  • Manage and maintain social media strategy and communications, both reactive and pro-active, across all channels, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Responsible for assisting in responding to social media postings
  • Responsible for overall communications to homeowners, members, guests and the public at large through website, internal communication campaigns and action plans for relevant departments
  • Initiate research, development and implementation of new marketing programs, including social media, internet marketing, direct mail, advertisements, sales tools and other initiatives
  • Analyze market trends to determine feasibility and profitability of new or existing offerings and make recommendations
  • Develop and promote branding initiatives consistent with business goals and objectives
  • Ensure all products, services and other offerings conform to brand identity and conduct ongoing brand management
  • Together with marketing and communications team, produce marketing collateral in accordance with brand message
  • Prepare and deliver reports on the status of all marketing programs
  • Communicate and negotiate with promotional partners as needed for joint marketing activities
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on competitor activities and propose recommendations based on opportunities discovered
  • Disseminate awareness of new marketing initiatives to all employees
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of work experience including corporate communications, original writing and editing and public relations
  • 3 to 5 years of direct work experience in a marketing management capacity
  • Excellent understanding and familiarity with brand building and brand management
  • Proven track record in creating and executing successful e-mail marketing, internet marketing, and direct marketing programs
  • Knowledge of ethical marketing best practices and associated regulations, specifically PEPIDA
  • Hands-on experience with search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, and other web focused initiatives
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with key business partners and stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Knowledge of HTML and email design an asset
  • Experience with InDesign, Constant Contact, Mail Chimp, AirTame and Survey Monkey an asset
  • Knowledge of Woo Commerce and Social Selling an asset
  • Strong portfolio of writing samples required
  • Direct experience with graphic design, web page and other marketing-related software tools
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
