Reporting to the VP, Public Affairs, Communication and Stakeholder Engagement and receiving direction from leadership of the new St. Paul's Hospital, the Digital Media Communications Officer writes, edits and produces diverse communications for online based media including but not limited to: web-based media, internet briefs, newsletters (print/online), social media in coordination with Providence Health Care Communications & Public Affairs (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook), online collaboration platforms, community engagement platforms, and presentations.

Specific responsibilities include liaising with internal and external stakeholders on the programs and services offered at the new St. Paul's Hospital at the Jim Pattison Medical Centre, coordinating and developing the information on the intranet, internal engagement platforms and external websites, newsletters, memos, presentations, bulletins, FAQs, content for social media platforms and more, in collaboration with other Communications team members, staff, clinician and leaders.

This position requires expertise in writing, editing and producing consistent and quality communications materials for the organization.


Effective communication skills including written, verbal, critical and strategic including a possessing the urgency, diplomacy and timeliness in the managing of information requests from staff, physicians, public, media and other stakeholders.

Skill and proficiency in organizational electronic communication technology, desktop publishing and web-based technology practices.

Effective interpersonal skills to deal with others at all levels of the organization, as well as external contacts. Ability to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of operational and strategic communication plans.

Familiarity with media, digital media and media relations.

Independent initiative, sound judgment and well developed decision-making abilities with the ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing situations.

Completion of a university degree in a related field such as communications, journalism or marketing/advertising, plus three (3) to five (5) years' experience in organizational communications, digital and social media or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Maintains and updates the new St. Paul's intranet page, external website, engagement platforms, presentations and content for social media by producing, revising and organizing content and other on-line resources. Ensures the internet and intranet is the optimal internal communications vehicle for staff physicians and leaders in the delivery of patient and resident care services and well as external sites for media, stakeholders and the public.

Researches, interviews, writes, edits and produces diverse communications materials such as articles, newsletters, bulletins, web publishing, news releases, speeches, briefing notes, brochures, pamphlets, backgrounders, special features, presentations, community reports and other materials, in collaboration with other Communication team members, on issues of importance to both internal and external stakeholders. Edits and produces digital/pre-recorded video and photography.

Develops and maintains a key stakeholder database to ensure that accurate and timely information may be delivered on strategic and emergent issues by methods such as distribution lists, listservs, surveys and others.

Work with leaders, managers, senior support staff and other stakeholders to organize and coordinate special events internally and externally. Acts as a resource to units/facilities planning special events.

Participates on committees and interdepartmental meetings to provide guidance and information on strategic communications planning or implementation.

Provides support to the Senior Communications Specialists and other Project team members to ensure communication activities are completed.

Under the supervision of the VP, Public Affairs, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, this position responds to media requests and coordinates internal response, including acting as a media escort. Tracks the New St. Paul's Project media coverage and highlights when there is coverage that may require specific action or attention.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
