The Communications Officer creates and implements strategies to strengthen the profile of Fleming College through media relations, and various other communications vehicles and channels. The incumbent helps to foster a positive image of Fleming College through effective management of the College's media narrative. The Communications Officer works closely with the College's Senior Management Team to provide counsel on media relations and coordinates media activities.

Responsible for drafting various forms of communications on behalf of the President's Office and the Marketing team and prepares the President for meetings and events with external guests and principal stakeholders.

The incumbent develops and implements internal communication plans and the processes to facilitate communication of college-wide issues. Conducts thorough research to support communications and briefings.

The Communications Officer plans and executes special media events and announcements for the College and ensures alignment with the College's strategic direction. Through partnering and teamwork coordinates and/or assists with the management of large-scale events on behalf of the College.

What We Are Looking For:

  • 3 year degree or diploma in Public Relations, Journalism or a related program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment which requires the ability to work under pressure in order to deal with multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Experience in media / government relations, marketing and corporate communications, social media or other digital content writing and production.
  • Experience researching and analyzing complex information and using oral and written communication skills and critical thinking skills.
