Job Description :
Reporting to the Manager, Communications, the Communications Officer serves as a day-to-day coordinator of internal and external communication and media relations. In addition, the incumbent will support colleagues in the areas of social media and government relations. The incumbent provides communications guidance and counsel to a wide variety of stakeholders, including executive team, Algonquin College Leadership Team, and major departments like ITS, Student Services and Physical Resources.
The incumbent coordinates media interviews and coaching with key stakeholders, in addition to consulting on media strategy for senior executives, faculty, and others.
In the Communications Manager's absence, the Communications Officer serves as a secondary coordinator of Communications Office, helping coordinate two full-time two part-time employees, and reporting to the President's Office lead on external and internal communications.
The incumbent works closely with the Manager and the rest of the Communications team on the drafting and issuing of timely College announcements, and the creation and execution of communications plans regarding institutional priorities. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance activities related to media relations, internal communications, government relations, and the administration of several College websites. The incumbent is involved in the communication and execution of high-profile College events, including media relations and social media specific to the events. The incumbent coordinates a variety of contractors completing departmental business. As required, the incumbent serves as a secondary manager of College social media and internal communications (employee portal) channels. Required Qualifications :
Minimum two (2) year diploma in Public Relations or Communications;
Minimum of three (3) years experience in Media, Media Relations and/or Public Relations and Communications, with demonstrated capability in various social media tools;
Excellent Analysis and problem solving skills;
Extensive experience in creating communications plans and strategies;
Ability to effectively plan, coordinate and organize the work;
Excellent and established written and oral skills.
