The HP Sales Engineer is responsible for interacting with clients to provide technical pre-sales support for HP Networking Products including configurations and other technical renderings. This position will provide level 2 technical assistance on opportunities transferred from the Sales411. Additionally, provides pre-sales technical support and guidance to the sales organization in support of Insight’s product and sales objectives. The Sales Engineer will need to coordinate resources to gather information to develop solutions on behalf of the Account Executive and is responsible for developing accounts, generating sales quotations, and handling client inquiries. This is a technical and sales role that is responsible for qualifying, configuring, quoting and assisting in closing solutions. The Sales Engineer will work with the rep and coach on margin to ensure that the deal is as profitable as it can be taking into consideration competition, pricing programs, etc. The Sales Engineer skills are directed at the technical knowledge, solution selling strategies and best practices of how to position manufacturer specific sales. Must understand the hardware and software aspects of specific vendors and be able to convey the benefits of this technology to the both the internal and external client.
Key responsibilities
•Provides consulting to internal/external clients, as well as sales, on hardware, software and/or services •Aid Sales Reps in assessing client needs via face to face meetings, conference calls, and e-mail •Develops and present technically valid solutions to the end-user •Designs and configuration of hardware, software and services solutions •Creates technically accurate solutions utilizing manufacturer specific configuration tools •Assists sales with manufacturer or distribution special pricing approval and procedural navigation •Configuration and quote generation within response to sales within SLA’s established by department •Educates Practice and Sales on manufacturer specific programs and product developments •Schedules and/or conducts training for Sales and Consulting regarding assigned product line •Communicates related manufacturer announcements to the sales community •Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment •Maintains professional relationships with Sales Reps, Vendors and Clients •Trains Systems Engineer I team members on products, technology and/or services •Understands client’s business objectives and technical needs •Intermediate/Advanced knowledge of designated hardware line •Efficiently handle any internal client service issues as they relate to quote accuracy or supply chain issues •Maintains third party quoting software, compacting and repairing database, as well as updating with current pricing downloads •Maintains technical certifications
Qualifications
•Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Information Technology and/or or equivalent combination of experience and education. 4-5 years minimum technical industry experience. •Intermediate level of understanding in HP Networking technologies. •Completion of vendor technical/sales training & certification. (AIS or ASE certification - and/or CCNA-CCNP certifications) •Utilize manufacturer configuration tools 75% of opportunities •Professionalism and solid phone skills are a must. Must be self-driven and able to work with minimal direction. Requires advanced technical knowledge or learning and the regular use of independent judgment. Insight may require the HP Systems Engineer I to achieve and maintain certifications on behalf of the company for HP Networking. In those cases the teammate will be reimbursed for the training and related travel in conjunction with Insight’s policies. The teammate will be asked to sign training waivers in advance of the training to ensure Insight receives maximum benefit for the investment.
